7 ½ Phere – abounds in light moments

Rating:- * *

The film’s concept has a touch of novelty, and director Isshaan Trivedi handles the light moments with flourish.

When Asmi [Juhi Chawla], an employee of a T.V. channel moots the idea of covering a reality show, a marriage in the Joshi family, there is lack of unanimity on the issue.

While the bride’s dad likes the idea, a few members in the Joshi family find the idea are opposed to it. Manoj [Irrfan Khan], the bride-to-be's youngest uncle, develops a soft corner for Asmi.

Getting a scent of Manoj's feelings, and almost optimistic of his support, Asmi has hidden cameras installed in the Joshis’ house. When the cameras roll, the skeletons begin to tumble out of the Joshis' closet.

Loosely inspired by a foreign film, such a theme that hasn't been attempted in Bollywood before, and therein lies its strength.

While the first half has a few arresting moments, the pace slackens after the interval.

Director Isshaan Trivedi has handled the light moments well, and pithy dialogues are the highlight of the film.

So far as performances are concerned, Irrfan and Juhi dominate the proceedings, and they get
Good support from Sri Vallabh Vyas and Neena Kulkarni.

In totality,7 ½ PHERE is a fairly good entertainer, well worth a look.
