What is it?
Some movies entertain you, but very few are able to enlighten your soul. ‘ANURANAN’ is one of those films which define sensible cinema in its true sense. What’s remarkable in ‘ANURANAN’ is in its treatment and personal touch given by its debutant director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury which results in a piece of art that is bound to strike a personal chord among audiences at many points.

Yes! It’s indeed a niche attempt by the adman who had done remarkable jobs with brands like Coca Cola, Nestle, Britannia, etc.

I would like to thank Aniruddha in the era of ‘welcomes’, cause ‘ANURANAN’ reminded me of the mesmerizing poetry written by Gulzarsaab it goes like this ‘ Hum Ne Dekhi Hai Un Aakho Ki Mehakti Khusbhoo, Haath Se Choo Ke Ise Rishtey Ka Ilzam Na Do, Ek Ehsaas Hai, Door Se Mehsoos Karo, Pyaar Ko Pyaar Hi Rahne Do Koi Naam Na Do’.

What a thought! That was the thought and ‘ANURANAN’ is the feeling.

Shemaroo Entertainment should be complimented for bringing quality cinema to the Hindi audience, ANURANAN in Bengali has been quite remarkable, and it ran for 100 days in Kolkata. The flick has also traveled several festivals.

What is it all about?
Anuranan means 'resonance' in Bengali and this movie is about the story of two couples, each with their own struggles to survive as a couple and as individuals. These individuals can be distinctly seen as four separate entities, with their own dreams, desires and emotions. Fate and circumstances bring them together.

After living in London for a few years, Rahul (Rahul Bose) and Nandita (Rituparna Sengupta) have recently moved back to Kolkata. The Kanchanjunga project is what brings Rahul and Amit (Rajat Kapoor) together. Friendship eventually blossoms amongst both the couples - Rahul & Nandita and Amit & Preeti (Raima Sen). As time flies, lot of events unfold and the relationship these friends share creates a resonance, a chord - that echoes through their present and future.

Rahul, Nandita, Preeti and Amit are seen walking through life, each of them going through a different phase. They bump into each other and their life takes a subtle turn. Rahul and Nandita strike a chord at a different level which continues to reverberate. They experience a unique bond and emotionally connect with each other in a significant plane of their journey in life.

What to look out for?
The narration by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury is simply poetic. He has very beautifully portrayed relationships. The sensitivity with which the emotions have been captured is commendable. The film contemplates how at various moments and thresholds of our life we experience different kinds of bonds and emotional attachments with different kinds of people.  The climax gives the movie a gigantic leap. Brilliantly done by Aniruddha and his writer Gaurav Pandey.
Performance by all the four Rahul Bose, Rituparna Sengupta, Rajat Kapoor, & Raima Sen are topnotch.
Splendid camerawork by Sunil Patel

What not?
Unfortunately, the music & the poetry does not sync to perfection in the Hindi version.

Recommended: Certainly for those whose culture is quality cinema!
