BAS EK PAL – GOOD IN PARTS

Rating:- * 1/2

Nikhil (Sanjay Suri), a young man educated in Boston (USA) returns to India after his parents died in an accident in the U.S. He is somewhat shocked that the very first place he visits on arrival i.e. a pub named Anticlock, he is not allowed in. The reason? The pub gives admission to couples only. He has hardly shrugged his shoulders in despair when a young girl named Anamika Joshi (Urmila Matondkar), a career-oriented, vivacious and ambitious helps him out.  Anamika is not only a hard worker, but also a party animal. While Nikhil loses his heart out to the young lady almost at the first sight, Anamika keeps her option open.

As is common among friends, Nikhil narrates his encounter with Anamika to his childhood friend Rahul Kher (Jimmy Shergill) over a game of basketball.

Steve O'Brien (Rehaan Engineer) is a reputed builder’s son. When his business suffers a setback, he hits the bottle. What’s worse, he suspects that his wife Ira (Juhi Chawla) is two-timing him. There are constant fights between husband and wife and when, in a moment of heat, he hits Ira, who’s pregnant, she loses her baby. She wants to leave Steve, but he won’t let her go too.

During another visit to the same pub, Nikhil is accompanied by Rahul and Steve. Anamika also comes there, but she seems to be changed person. Nikhil falls out with her.

A sudden gunshot in the air not only changes the course of the story, but also the lives of all the characters.

While director Onir shows the change in the moods of his protagonists beautifully, the overall
quality of the film leaves a lot to be desired. The pace of the story is also very slow.

However, the music of the film is quite pleasing to the ear, specially the Tere bin number.

On the whole, the film just passes muster. One who has ample spare time on his hand can watch it once to pass time.
