Technical Analysis
Oh Mama………….. This ‘Chance Pe Dance’ drama is more napping then foot tapping, Ken Gosh next shout as a director after ‘Fida’ is an incongruous mix of dreams, drama, bollywood, romance and dance in which the dancing is fabulous (Shahid gets all the whistles for his moves) and the drama is low grade at best that gives romance at rest.

The movie dances when it should be developing, say, characters or story line.

Though it starts with an ‘attitude’ but couldn,t keep its ‘back straight’ cause it swings being a film on a struggling actor/dancer or a teacher who inspires those 10+ something’s to shake a leg and shook the world. Recent dance based movies like Madhuri’s ‘Naach Le’ or debutant Gayatri Patel’s ‘Let's Dance’ or even the unnoticed ‘Fastforward’, all have gone without a trace leaving Mithun Da’s Disco Dancer (1983) to enjoy the top position uninterrupted for the last 27 years.

‘Disco Dancer’ can now be called as a cult by some and the reason being its music which made everybody yahan wahan nache nache, the story though was cliché but it still ruled as the maker B.Subash smartly played the ‘Maa’ wala card to its best effect.

Sadly like the previous dance disasters ‘Chance Pe Dance’ also suffers due to pitiable music and script.
Ken Gosh tries to add that tried and tested melodrama and forcefully tries to add ‘Maa’ in the end but boy by that time its already time off. If Shahid and his extra pacs would not have been there then things could have been even worse.

His presence, moves and brilliant performance especially in the scene just before the interval when he is dejected at being rejected of one more chance provides some moments to this predictable story of a struggler.

Otherwise this urban boring musical will hardly sing any song to anyone even those who spend their after school hours with MTV and Dance shows on TV will give it a cut. The industry walas will need a Sherlock holmes to find any resemblance.

Technically though it scores good points and is crisply edited and glossily picturised especially the songs musically though blah but the production values are top notch and costumes are trendy.
Genelia Dsouza is fine, Mohinish Behl and Parikshit Sahani are competent.

The movie scores 2 out of 5

One for Shahid

And other is shared between Genelia and technical finesse

The movie loses points on basics like story and story telling

The Story

Has a storyline so simple even little kids won't find it a challenge to follow it. Sameer (Shahid) juggles various jobs to keep him afloat while pursuing his one dream to get a break on the big screen. In his quest, Sameer has a lot of ups and down, hopes and disappointments.

In this tedious predictable journey, he is helped by a choreographer Tina (Genelina)  and they both forget to do a salsa in the end but pose for a red carpet premiere did you hear. Ear anyone.

Promotion

The movie lacks but the promotion had punch. Honestly speaking the outdoor/ indoor publicity and the earnest media awareness by Nine winds has promptly been able to attract young urban legs to the theaters.

The night long car nama was something innovative, different and interesting. Musically though it’s a big disappointment and is really equally shocking to have dance based film failing to add even a decent number for its promotions.

Business Analysis

Shahid’s popularity among urban females, his dance moves in the film, media buzz but no hit number and a predictable tedious narration with hardly any moments of cherish, ‘Chance Pe Dance’ promises no foot tapping moments at the theatres.

However, Dvd and satellite sales can be a brief enjoyable twist.
