What is it?
Watch this for the following reasons
1. If you are a die hard Mithun’s fan & love him as an actor and not during his short stint in Ootywood where he featured in those B-grade action flicks.
2. And you want to contribute to the actor in some way who was once considered to be the poor man’s Amitabh during his hey days.
3. To feel sorry for the actor who on his very debut won the National Award for best actor in Mrigayaa (1976) but still was forced to do those B-grade action flicks like Billa no 786, Aaaj Ka Ravan etc etc. in his later stage.
4. And last but not the least- to experience how our immature film makers make a mockery of a Hollywood inspiration.
Are Ha Bhai Ha. It’s the same old story – Bollywood teri yehi kahani unki ( Hollywood) soch apni (Bollywood) jubani.
Shakti Samantha who is remembered for his memorable movies like Aradhana, Kati Patang, Amar Prem, Howrah Bridge, Kashmir Ki Kali and more. His son Ashim, who has now taken over the charge, tries his hand in comedy a genre which was never touched by his father. Sadly he makes a mockery of it and unknowingly commits a crime of trying to make people burst out with laughter but manages only to give you some smiles here and there.
For his debut vehicle Ashim takes some leaves from John Landis lively up-beat comedy Oscar (1991) starring Sylvester Stallone and forlornly doesn’t succeeds. Though it provides you with giggles but leaves you begging for more in the end.
What could have been a real mad caper results in a filmed stage show of Mithun Chakraborty who is first rate.
What is it all about?
Don Muthuswami (Mithun Chakraborty- first rate), makes his dying father a promise on his deathbed: he would leave the world of crime and become a gentleman. Thus begins a journey of don becoming a gentlemen, he hires an Urdu teacher Jaikishan ( Mohit Raina- so so) to get his Urdu and Hindi dictation right and only learns ‘tashrif rakhiye’ .
In between this, the don is also confused and worried about his daughter Sanjana's (Hrishita Bhatt- makes faces which are sometimes funny) marriage. Best match according to him was his very good friend Don Vardhan's son Pradhan to which Sanjana refuses. So she lies that she is pregnant. Muthu's general manager, Preetam (Rohit Roy- carries one expression throughout), who wants to marry Muthu's daughter, is another dimension of this comic (?) confusion. He had been stealing regularly from Muthu, to make himself a millionaire. Then comes, Ranjana (Anusmriti- no comments) who tells Muthu that she loves his accountant Preetam. She also admits to Muthu that she had lied to Preetam about being Muthu's daughter.
In the meanwhile, Sanjana and Jaikishan fall in love with each other and make things more complicated for all us.
What to look out for?
Mithun Chakraborty- the actor once again proves his brilliance and comic timings with perfect south Indian dialect and lingo. First rate, absolutely brilliant. The movie rests entirely on his shoulders and he delivers from heart.
What not?
It could have been executed in a much better way, the soft hearted don trying to change & the police is smelling something fishy & in between the don’s unmarried daughter declares that she is pregnant is a master plot which could have been exploited to a lot of extent but alas.
