An exclusive interview with Varun Dhamakedar - the man behind the ‘Pathaka’ expose of Miss Nimbu Pani which created ‘TEHELKA’ in Bollywood drawing rooms, bed rooms and in the white, blue and grey houses of Rajdhani Delhi. Here he talks about the film ‘IT’S BREAKING NEWS, which attempts to uncover the darker side of the famous or infamous ‘sting operation’.

Q: How is the film does it ‘stings’?
A: I must say it’s a brave attempt by Vishal Inamdar. He will learn from his stingaperience. As far as the ‘sting’ factor is concerned, I admire his innocence.

Q: Does such operation matter?
A: Yup! Definitely as far as the TRP’s are concerned. But it depends on the gravity of the issue. Like we did on Miss Nimbu Paani. Mera matlab hai Ki aap ko junta ke samne ek dil ko dehla dene ‘wali’ reality lani chahiye aur apni ‘rai’ ya judgement dena nahi bholna chahiye. Like we did on the lakhon dilon ki dadkan ‘Miss Nimbu paani’ where she turned out to be the dhadkan of ‘Ashique Begana’ the driver. Her much publicized affair with ‘Rukhsukh Khan’ was all programmed and scripted. Now people have shifted their heart beats towards ‘Hassena Durrani’ and she is going great guns. As she is the daughter of Barood Ibrahim.

Q: Are you satisfied or happy with the sting on DIG shown in the film?
A: Ah well to an extant yes I am. A DIG and a Commissioner are exploiting a bholi bhali a bala nari, yes it does has some relevance and gravity. People should know that a rakshak can become a bhakshak and can go to any extant. Well till that part it was quite good.

Q: Till that extant………….
A: I mean after that the film losses its way like any bad story or coverage in TV or print. The movie starts with an head honcho of a News Channel refuses a story on Chief Ministers Son and then flashes a story on DIG and in the climax the DIG Kills the Commissioner!!.
From where to where! Such a wayward and bad coverage

Q: Sir it’s a film….
A: (gets angry) so what!! The heading and the climax should have a relationship or not? If I start a story on Amitabh’s first appearance in all India radio and then end with Mallika Sherawat’s first Kiss on screen, will it make any sense!!

Q: But sir, Vishal is a first timer and you said it’s a brave attempt?
A: Ah !! smart dude. Trying to put words in my mouth. Journalist kahin ka. Which channel are you from?

Q: Sir how where the performances?
A: performance!! Where? Well in a sting operation the victim and the camera does everything. What actors will do?

Q: I am asking about Koel Puri and the newcomer Swati Sen?
A: Arree !! I always forget that I just came out from a movie not my channels editing room. I apologize. The new girl Swati has potential as an actress but not in lead pair.
As far as Koel is concern, well she belongs to the Journalist Gharana so it was all natural for her. I must say she should join Aaj Tak aaj hi.

Q: Will the film work?
A: Mushkil lagta hai. Capsule or caption ke saath vigorous promotion was needed which could have a fake sting operation. That could have given the initial hype and created wonders for the channel TRP’s which they would have tied up with.

Q: Sir what do you mean by TRP?
A: Telecast of a Ridiculous Program.
