Technical Analysis
One thing is crystal clear; if Aamir Khan is involved in production then there is no doubt that the audience will come out with a smile on their face.
Aamir has proved himself as maker in Lagaan, followed by Taare Zameen Par last year and this year he launches his nephew Imran in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na & makes the audience feel good and brings smiles back to their face & thus consolidates his position as a thinking maker who knows his product very well.
JTYJN works as it is cool & it springs the breeze of fresh air to the audience thanks to the talented writer Abbas Tyrewala who in his debut as the director compliments Aamir's cause with his griping innovative screenplay, good lines packed with excellent performance & of course humour.
And who can forget AR Rahman who always has something unique for Aaamir. 'Has De', 'Pappu' & the title track are an instant take home as you hear.
When Rotlu (Karan), Jiggy (Nirav) ,Bombs (Alishka) and Shaleen (Sughanda) offer to tell Mala the tale of Jai Imran Khan and Aditi (Genelina) - a match made in the pastry shop of heaven - Mala is convinced that she is in for yet another clichéd love story with joys and sorrows, happiness and heartbreak, laughter and songs, fights... and a climax at the airport.
And indeed, Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na is all of that. And more!
Meet Jai, the most non-violent Rajput either side of the Aravallis. And meet, the violent and passionate Aditi.
She scratches. And abuses. If you do get into a scrap, take cover till Jai arrives, as he alone can calm our snarling wildcat.
Never was there a less likely couple. Jai thinks Aditi's parents should have rinsed her mouth with soap when she was a child. Aditi thinks that Jai is the biggest coward she has ever encountered. Heaven, it seems, has mixed up its apples and oranges.
More nuts in this fruitcake scenario: Rotlu weeps secretly for Aditi. Bombs' heart explodes for Jai. Jiggy applies golden mascara to his hair. Shaleen... Well, she's probably the only one who doesn't seem a few notes short of a concerto.
So, to come back to our story: Jai and Aditi are perfect for each other (in some odd, distorted way, impossible to understand). Friends know this. Parents know this. Everybody knows this. But do Rats and Meow know?
Ultimately they know but before that the audience experience a good time while watching the proceedings & at the same time welcome the new actor Imran with open arms to the tinsel town.
Telugu star Genelia also chips in with a brilliant performance along with Manjari Phadnis & all of them get good support from the whole gang.
Prateik Babbar as the Bhaiya also scores decent marks in his debut.
The seniors like Naseruddin Shah, Ratna Pathak along with Paresh Rawal are a delight.
In fact all the actors do a fantastic job in this film.
The movie has to be seen and believe that how a simple wafer thin plot can be constructed so beautifully without leaving any norms of emotions required in a Bollywood cinema.
There are some flaws like the climax is streched and takes too many cinematioc liberties and post interval it's a bit serious, but that dosen,t hamper the films prospects at the box-office.
Promotion
Even after having a stiff competition, the movie has made its presence felt and generated interest.
Aamir has gone all out in promoting his movie and nephew which has kept the buzz alive. Promoters should take lessons from the two releases this week in how to promote a movie with a new comer.
Media Promotion by Spice has complimented the producer’s and promoters cause.
Business Analysis
This 10 crore romantic comedy targeted at audiences who are young at heart is releasing with 350 prints across the country & will definitely score higher in multiplexes and metro considering the feel & the product.
If the product is good and on the top of that if it’s backed by a good music and excellent promotional strategy then it definitely work’s amongst its target audience. Business will be best in metros and in multiplexes & considering its low cost it’s another winner from Aamir but this time its with a double bonanza - number one - introduces Imran who looks confident, Fresh and who is bound to make his mark in the industry & second - Abbas Tryewala shows promise and flair in his debut as a director.
