Krrish – AN ALTOGETHER FRESH FILM WITH AWE-INSPIRING ACTION
Rating:- * * *1/2
The Rakesh Roshan-Hrithik Roshan combo has earlier two great successes in “ KAHO NAA… PYAAR HAI” and “KOI… MIL GAYA”, and if “KRRISH” meets the great expectations it has aroused (in fact, it already has), Filmkraft banner would rightly boast of a HATTRICK.
While most of the senior filmmakers have taken to remaking old hits, it goes to the credit of Rakesh Roshan that he has moved with the fast-changing times and mustered courage to come out with something altogether new. At the same time, KRRISH is soaked in Indian emotions [the relationship Hrithik shares with his grandmother ( Rekha], who talks of astrology using computer as a tool and shows the protagonist with superpowers -- a story Indians can absorb very easily. Concurrently, Roshan Sr. relies on dexterously executed special effects to narrate the tale. And the pulsating stunts and thrills act as icing on the cake.
Krishna [Hrithik Roshan] is born with magical powers -- a legacy from his father, Rohit Mehra.
Free as a bird, he runs faster than the wind…
And soars across rivers and mountain tops…like an eagle
Priya [Priyanka Chopra] comes into his life and beckons him to Singapore. Little does he know that it is destiny that has called him there. Inexplicably, his grandmother who has so far sheltered him from the world, agrees to part with him and lets him follow his heart.
In Singapore, what does Krrish discover? That a certain Dr. Siddhant Arya [Naseeruddin Shah], the megalomaniac scientist, is on the verge of changing the future forever. Only one man can thwart the disastrous designs of Dr. Siddharth…And it is Krrish. The fight between the righteous (Krrish)and the villain (Naseeruddin Shah) begins and the usage of special effects and thrills takes the film to an altogether new high. The last 40 minutes of the film amply make up for the slow tempo of the film in the first hour. The fight between the two adversaries has been shown very convincingly. Writers Sachin Bhowmick, Honey Irani, Robin Bhatt, Akash Khurana and Rakesh Roshan deserve kudos for padding the film with pulse-pounding moments.
Not that the film has no flaws. It has. Apart from slow pace in the first hour or so, the music of Rajesh Roshan leaves a lot to be desired. Barring the ‘Dil Na Diya’ track, music is commonplace.
But basically it is an action-oriented film, and action by [Tony Ching Siu Tung from Hong Kong and Sham Kaushal] is awe-inspiring. The special effects [Marc Kolbe and Craig Mumma, both from U.S.A.] are incredible. Santosh Thundiyil’s cinematography is exceptional.
As for performances, Hrithik Roshan with his features of a Greek god and physical personality to match is the soul of the film. Priyanka Chopra, Rekha and Naseer are also highly effective,
But essentially it’s a Hrithik Roshan film.
Other actors - Sharat Saxena, Puneet Issar, Akash Khurana, Hemant Pandey, Manini Mishra, Kiran Juneja Sippy and Archana Puransingh -- are just about okay.
