KYON KI… NOT QUITE UPTO THE MARK
Rating:- *1/2
Fans of Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Priyadarshan – all of whom have worked together for the first time in “Kyon Ki” inspired by a classic Hollywood flick feel rather disappointed the way the story has been Indianized.
It fails to involve you. It's outright predictable. Even the grip, so vital in a love story that promises loads of drama, is missing.
Anand [Salman Khan] and Maya [Rimmi Sen] are in love and are planning to marry, but thanks to a prank, Anand throws her in a swimming pool on their engagement day, not knowing that she can't swim. Maya dies…
Unable to overcome the shock, that he has killed Maya, Anand loses his mental balance and is hospitalized.
Dr. Khurana [Om Puri] strongly believes that brutal force and oppression are the only way to tackle insane patients. Initially, his daughter Dr. Tanvi [Kareena Kapoor] also feels the same, but she has a change of heart later.
While treating Anand with utmost compassion Tanvi loses her heart to him.
Remake of Priyadarshan's Malayalam film THALAVATTAM, which was loosely based on ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST [1975], KYON KI…is one of the most predictable stories to hit the screens in the recent times. The screenplay of the film is the main weakness.
Himesh Reshammiya's music is okay. A few numbers are very melodious. Cinematography [Thiru] is eye-catching, especially the locations of Romania. Dialogues [Sanjay Chhel] are quite nice at places. Editing is loose.
Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor are natural to the core. Rimmi Sen doesn't get scope to display histrionics. While Jackie Shroff is likeable, Suniel Shetty is wasted.
On the whole, KYON KI… doesn’t really look like a Priyadarshan film.
