LOINS OF PUNJAB PRESENTS
A JOYOUSLY WITTY FUNFILLED AFTERNOON

Rating:- * * *

What is it?
What a take on the rapidly increasing current infectious ‘bimari’ identified as ‘Indian Idol’. Prominently seen amongst the aspiring singers of any ‘gharana’ or ‘bathrooms’.

The NRI attempt by Manish Acharya is a two hour fun packed entertainer blended with fantastic characterization and marvelous performances. Ideally the ‘hero’ over here is not in the film it’s in the title!!
Whose line was it anyway?

Quite catchy!!

This first timer is a smart cap baby!

Whats it all about?
A ruthless philanthropist (Shabana Azmi). A gay bhangra rapper(Ajay Naidu),  An over-protected prodigy(Ishitta Sharma),  A reckless actress who doesn’t know hindi (Seema Rahamani),  A lovelorn businessman(Manish Acharya). An entrepreneurial yogi(Michael Raimondi). And Mr. Bokade (Jameel Khan) the organizer.

This roller-coaster world of seven strangers collides during a singing contest in a small New Jersey town.

In hilarious moments candidates get selected and rejected. Shabana bribes, conspires other participants dreaming to walk with the title but satire has its upper head.  A gora who knows only two songs ‘Aye Dil Hai Mushkil Jeena Yahan’ and the Indian national anthem, wins the hindi singing contest singing ‘ Jana Gana Mana’.

What to look out for?
A good NRI comedy with a pinch of satire. Wonderful characterizations. The bangra rapper played by Ajay Naidu who uses all the foul language available in the globe is the pick of the lot.

Smart pen work by Anuvab Pal & Manish Acharya.

Also some inspiring performance by Shabana Azmi, Jameel Khan, Seema Rahmani, Ishita Sharma, Michael Raimond, Ayesha Dharker and Manish Acharya.

What Not?
The Saddam Hussein episode is uncalled for. Many more punches could have been added but alas!
In spite of good characterizations the basic story line is wafer thin.

Conclusion: Enjoy and sing along!!
