What is it?
World Cinema is changing. Last week the Indian house of Romance came up with an uplifting sport curry marked with patriotism- ‘Chak De’, and this week we have an American Golden Berlin Bear award winner Willard Carroll trying his hand in Bollywood with a typical love triangle, oh sorry! quadrangle ‘Marigold’.

Welcome to Bollywood Mr. Carroll. It is indeed heartening to see a Hollywood maker falls in love with India and its movies, watches more than 100 bollywood dvds, gets inspired and churns out a typical Bollywood ‘prem kahani’. Some where enjoyable, some where bearable, some where noticeable while others where forgettable.

So where thus Williards romantic adventure fits in? The answer is no where.

The director has mentioned in the press release that he had watched more than 100 dvds of Indian movies which reminded him the great Hollywood musicals of the forties and fifties.

A million dollar question – which Indian movies reminded him of Hollywood musicals of the forties and fifties? Jeeto Jeeto Inam Jeeto.

Are yaar ! This quadrangle could have been done happily by any desi maker. ‘Marigold’ has nothing different to offer regarding the plot. It’s the same aged love stories being recycled by adding firangi colours. Bollywood johars beware! You have a competitor.

The only things redeeming in ‘Marigold’ is the gorgeous Ali Larter. The damsel looks stunning in Indian outfits and comfortably carries the tough role with ease and perfection.

Her expressions and timings are spot on.

Whats it all about?
Marigold Lexton (Ali Larter) an actress with attitude meets a cool dancing dude Prem (you know who). After some false steps love starts blossoming between the two under the watchful eyes of a speechless Grover(why was the Bollywood king of get ups kept mum) ek aur sawal ? million dollar kamane ka ek aur ‘Golden’ moka.

(more questions to follow?). They then dance their way to Rajasthan but the poor rejuvenated larter finds prem already engaged to janvi (Nandana Sen). Enough, now I will not go any further you don’t need any special quality or gyan to know what will happen next.

Infact this movie is a test where any Bollywood filmlover will score 10 out of 10 in predicting the next scene. Get me a Bollywood cinegoer who has not heard or watched this type of romantic flick?
