Reel Life Sufferance.

What is it?
Film based or inspired by real life incidents have been made in past like Aandhi (1975) directed by Sampooran Singh Gulzar, Bandit Queen (1994) directed by Shekhar Kapur. This films where cult of their times. There we had professional actors playing the protagonist. Recently Krishna Mishra changed the trend by bringing in the protagonist himself to enact the role on screen in ‘Wounded’ – the real life story of the dreaded bandit Seema Parihar. Akin to ‘Wounded’ K.K. Yadav too tries to follow the footsteps of Krishan Mishra in ‘Miss Anara’ roping in Miss Jammu –Anara Gupta for the pivotal role. A welcome trend but alas with a catch, the transformation of real drama into a flick is neither intriguing nor dramatic in cinematic sense.
After watching the film, you feel that the news flashed during the controversy where better scripted and performed.
Sorry, to say the attempt though innovative is quite amateurish. Infact, in excuse of cinematic liberty the writers Yogesh Bhardwaj, K.K. Yadav, S. Sachindra, Trilokchandra and directors Yogesh Bhardwaj and K.K. Yadav skip the vital facts, Narendra Kohli episode is missing, Chandigarh report and Amit Chouhan episode is omitted for reasons better known to them.
And, the whole scandal which brought the blue film trade into limelight is hardly talked about. It appears that the maker was confused and he did not have the idea whether to make a stark film or a commercial potboiler.
Roping in the real life sufferer to enact the role on screen by screwing up the facts and reality in the name of cinematic liberty and commercialization does not speak cinema in any form.Whats it all about?
A young Girl from Jammu Anara Gupta is studying in a College Jammu. She is in love with Amit (Amit Rao). A 'Miss Jammu & Kashmir Beauty Queen Contest' is going to take place. Amit tells Anara to take part in the contest. Anara’s father (Gajendra Chauhan) is against it but her mother (Smiti Jaykar) supports her daughter.
Anara wins the contest, modeling and album contracts. At the same time, a senior police officer lures for her. She refuses his advances and one early morning at 04:00a.m. Police arrest Anara along with her mother and brother. She is kept in Police lock-up. Anara is charged for working in a Blue Film. She gets tortured with 3rd degree. After that Anara confessed on one condition that her mother and brother should be freed.
Then matter goes to the court and Crime Branch. And, after the outcome of the Forensic Laboratory report from Hyderabad, Court gives Miss Anara 'A Clean Chit'. What to look out for?
Spirited performance by Mukesh Tiwari, Smita Jaykar and Yashpal Sharma. As far Anara Gupta is concerned she is better in those torture scenes in jail, overall she is strictly okay as an actor. Production values are according to the demand. Rest there is nothing to talk about this real into reel disaster.
What Not?
An amateurish, confused narration right from the beginning. The drama does not get established anywhere, you wait for something intriguing to happen but alas you wait and wait and wait and in the process also have to bear those songs which do strange strings to your ears and by the time Anara is freed you come out of the cinema hall scratching your head wondering what it was actually all about.
Conclusion, if you wish to watch this movie to get some more facts or insight about the Anara Gupta controversy, then you will be highly disappointed.
