MY NAME IS ANTHONY GONSALVES
Hic….Hic… Mohe Rang De Julius

What is it?
William Shakespeare must be wondering what are Bollywood filmwallas up to. Ok Vishal Bhardwaj had his interpretation of Othello in Omkara & was done brilliantly and now E Niwas narrates a story in rang De Basanti Ishtyle & tries to form an analogy of Julius Ceaser in modern day Bandra through the dreamy eyes of Nikhil Dewivedi (his spelling not mine) who aspires to become a reel hero & ends up becoming a hero in real & well as real life. Vow! Sounds intriguing when one reads and hear but alas! The execution by talented E Niwas leaves you disappointed & in between you mummer the famous dialogue from Julius Ceaser “ ………. You Too?

Agreed there is no comparisons between Omkara & MNIAG, here the director tries to relate & run parallel the Julius Ceaser saga with the lead protagonist Anthony (Nikhil Dewivedi…… looks promising & SRK plus Shahid from different angles) an orphan who dreams of becoming a star and gets entangled in a real life drama parallel to the lines of Julius Ceaser.

What is it all about?
For an ordinary guy, Anthony Gonsalves (Nikhil Dewivedi) has an extra-ordinary dream. His dream is to become an actor. Anthony works as a bartender in Jimmy's Pub in Bandra, Mumbai. His job is to run the joint smoothly, while the bosses concentrate on their own work of specialization.

Sikander (Pwan Malhotra – competent) , Maqsood (Mukesh Tiwari – as usual), and Riyaaz (Daya Shankar Pandey – wasted ) own the pub, and their work of specialization is Bhaigiri. The pub is a legitimate front for their illegal activities.

Sikander Bhai is Anthony's benevolent benefactor and protector. Anthony was an orphan, both his mother and father died when he was young.

For Anthony, Sikander Bhai is like God, and for Sikander, Anthony is the little brother he never had. Sikander has made sure Anthony doesn't get anywhere near the periphery of the gang, or any of its activities, except for what is legit, which is the pub.

After the initial hiccups and the odd humiliation, Anthony finds a friend in an old timer cameraman Moorthy (Surabh Shukla – for two scenes), who frequents the pub regularly. Moorthy helps Anthony with his photo shoot, gives him leads, places to go, people to meet, and instills the necessary confidence in him, makes Anthony believe that it's possible, that it's just a matter of time, that his dream would come true one day.

This lands Anthony into a whole lot of trouble at the hands of Fr. Briganza(Mithun – fine), who does not let Anthony get away with any of his supposed transgressions!

But let this not fool you. Anthony and Fr. Briganza share a very warm and endearing relationship! Fr. Briganza is not only a father figure, but also a moral guardian, who, in due course of time, helps Anthony choose between right and wrong as suggested by Sikander.

Wannable star gets an offer to act and he is required to play the role of Anthony from the the play Julius Ceaser – most common in acting schools & realizes that the characters are straight from his real life.
Murtuza Seth (Anupam Kher – below par) is actually the leader of the gang. The Don is in semi-retirement, preparing for his Haj pilgrimage. He's happy to have the boys run the gang for him. Though Maqsood is Murtuza's nephew, it's Sikander whom he trusts more.

Maqsood doesn't care much about this obvious difference, until Riyaaz points it out to him. From here on, a 'Julius Caesar' kind of a scenario starts to ensue.

And in the meanwhile, Anthony encounters a bubbly Asst. director Riya (Amrita Rao – oozes charm whenever she pops up on the screen) Madam Riya – Aapke karan hi movie thoda bahoot Jiya.

What to look out for?
We heard a lot that this flick is about SRK’s struggle during his initial days in the tinsel town but to my knowledge, I didn’t find anything as such and thanks to that.

Nikhil Dewivedi debut as an actor is promising but not as a star.

Amrita Rao gives the much needed relief and warmth to this dull film though her character seems to be forced in.

Pawan Malhotra gives a very competent performance – this actor stills waits for his dues from the industry.

What not?
The analogy doesn’t gets created and fails to get connected. The hero hardly does anything and the pace is boring. The narration is dull. Oveall a disappointment from E Niwas who had given Dum Shool & Love ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega.

Conclusion: Will face hurdles in its run.
