PAANGA NA LO - Nahin Liya
- by Vishal Verma
Rating:- *1/2
What is it?
Another example of a noble idea being turned into a film, which has hardly to say anything.
Director Rajen Kothari’s second venture, ‘PAANGA NA LO’, after the WBFJA award winner ‘Purush’ is a comedy, which rarely makes you smile.
Sorry, Hrishida you deserve a much more bona fide tribute than this.
Speaking about the title and the film, director Rajen Kothari & the writer Amole Gupte definitely take no PANGAs over here. The film substantially deprives the viewer from any emotions of its kind, be it comedy drama, romance, nothing. The film goes on without giving any chance to the audience to understand what it has to say & by the time, they get to know about it the film ends.
What it’s all about?
Two nuclear families Kakke (Om puri), and Karsan (Satish Shah) are close friends and neighbhours, there two children Vera (Priyanka Yadav) and Bhura ( Kunal Roy Kapoor) are in love but neither the boy or the girl make any move. Noticing this, the fathers cook different plans but they all fail, sometimes due to Bhura’s introvert nature or by bad luck.
How the lover’s confide and what happens is the rest of the story.
What to look out for?
United, once again after the cult film of its time ‘Janne Bhi Do Yarro’, Om Puri & Satish Shah, deliver a spirited performance. Only due to these two-gifted actors, the film has some entertainment value. Supriya Pathak is a fine actress but here also she is made to continue her ‘Khichdi’ type of a role.
New comers (Priyanka Yadav) and Bhura ( Kunal Roy Kapoor) are okay.
Razaak Khan in a cameo is entertaining. Production values are satisfactory; Cinematography by Arun Verma is up to mark.
What Not?
A brilliant idea, but sadly amateur direction and screenplay makes it a confuse film. What could have being a brilliant take off on the love stories being made in bollywood sadly turns into a disappointment.
The screenplay is not convincing why bhura turns introvert is not explained & suddenly later on in the second half he starts crooning, after their fathers have turned foes due to the suggestion of a pub owner Viju Khote. Music does not provide any relief nor there is anything to hum, in fact it only helps in dragging the story more long.
The movie is not going to find patronage of any kind.
