Technical Analysis
Having the rice in its right plate, Shashanka Gosh ‘s ‘Quick Gun Murgan’ is an harmless, innocent poke at Hollywood westerners & Bollywood masala stuff that does finds a fresh background for the cinegoers.
Following his interesting ‘Waisa Bhi Hota Hai’, Shashanka teams with the popular MTV character Murgan which was smartly used by the music channel for their promotions, carries reservations regarding fox chances of a new franchise to tap the big large bollywood cinemaholds .
As a helmer Shashanka has tailored a dazzling, spoofy & a colorful outfit to the regular & non regular ramp walkers of bollywod theatre. ‘Quick Gun Murgan’ stands out via those innovative postcard bullets that address the audience with a tale of vengeance, reincarnation, in a typical south Indian envelope. Lacking the emotional undercurrents and identification amongst the robust strict wheat eating north Indian market, this assemble rice curry fails to please the e – buds of the north Indian audience & may fail to make its presence felt at the all India level but as sheer eye candy, & all the do’s essential in an over the top loud south indian cinema, like the matchbox act, catching of bullets by teeth. This spoofy & spicy sambhar rice looks set for a silky hugs at the south Indian theaters.
‘Quick Gun Murgan’ has the surprise hmmmmm factor in its creativity that’s impressively innovative, loud & amazingly noiselessly intelligent.
Smartly written by Rajesh Devraj, the movie is a jokey tribute to the Hollywood westerners & Bollywood revenge dramas. With the Charlie Chaplin of Andhra as Murgan , Dr. Rajendra Prasad makes sure that he is serious in not letting his audience leave with a disappointment who had already accepted the actors limited range & made him the King of Comedy in their state.
Rambha also known as the lucky charm amongst bollywood producers has lost the oomph and gained the pulp but had strikingly maintained her screen presence & does a balance act. more's the pity she arrives after the intermission.
Playing the villain Naseer is ruthless as rice Plate Reddy and Raju Sundaran as the Rowdy MBA supports the villainy with fine mannerisms. Shanmugaraja as Gun Powder
And Vinay Pathak as Chitragupt chip in with valuable support. Among the other thespians Kishori Balla as the Anni is fantastic.
Thick-and-southy musical numbers adds to the fun. Production values are appropriate through R.A Krishna glossy widescreen lensing to the slick visual effects by Tim McGovern.
The pic gets 3 out of five
One for the creativity
One for the making
One for the performance
The movie losses on its inability to establish Murgan as a Gr8 Indian Bollywod Mascot.
The Story
Quick Gun Murugun is an unlikely Superhero with Guntastic powers. He is a Sincere South Indian Cowboy who considers it his duty to serve and protect. The movie revolves around mis-adventures of Quick Gun Murugun (Dr. Rajendra Prasad) and his fight with his arch villain Rice Plate Reddy (Naseer).
Quick Gun Murugun enters into an epic battle that spans time and space, from a small south Indian village to Swarglok and then finally to the cosmopolitan Mumbai. He is torn between Mango Dolly (Rambha) who loves him secretly and his first love Locket girl (Anu Menon) and his loyalty is put to the test.
Promotion
Wisely promoted in indoor/ outdoor/media, the promoters has stick to the skin of the character & promoted Murgan as loud as they can, which is honestly doping the tricks.
Business Analysis
Having the maximum buzz amongst this week releases, Quick Gun Murgan’ is masala to the max. its limited appeal amongst the north & east Indian audience may not make ‘murgan’ a national figure, but in all probability it is likely to score maximum down South & select western parts like Mumbai, which will be encouraging enough for Fox to plan a sequel.
