Technical Analysis
Oh Acting Ki Maiya pls shower some blessings to our dear Himesh Reshamiya who still desperately tries very hard to act but still he fails to connect with the audience like the film which plays like one long, sad, love song (fantastically tuned) of compromise; it places packaging ahead of ambition.
Not learning form his previous mistake (71/2 phere starring Juhi Chawla & Irrfan Khan) of ruining a promising idea & a premise by immature & unconvincing writing, writer helmer Isshaan makes ‘Radio’ suffer in his attempt to be cool but alas! Its just not ‘happening’.
Maintaining the immatureness about contemporary relationships, Isshaan (his spelling not mine) tries to cuddle up to the audience in this suppose musical rom com with a narration that goes as bizarre as watching Tarantino chapters in an European Broadway.
Musically the numbers make themselves count at the charts but its pathetically used & placed in this RJ’s love story which sounds like a loorie (lullaby) that hardly peeps into the joys and woes of those platonic friendships.
Two characters who seem to have nothing on their minds this RJ Vivan (Himesh Reshammiya reduces the inferiority complex of Sonu Nigam as an actor) & his wife Pooja (Sonal Sehgal……………. Jaisa co –star wiasa hi uska on screen pyaar) are about to get divorced for some reasons which the helmer didn,t bother to explain & leaves us bare this torture expecting it won,t pain.
It starts with a promising premise where a popular RJ is solving relationship problems of others but personally going through a terrible phase where his wife has divorced him &
He is continuingly acting immune to the love advances of his new friend Shanaya (Shenaz Treasuryvala………this lass is amazing, I mean how come anyone manage to carry the same expression for the entire film irrespective of the scene & the emotion its demands)
The movie is an amalgamation of 15 odd tedious chapters where caller tune changes overnight, forget the girls even the man doesn,t know what to decide. They break plates on their dinner nights, a divorced patni orders a karva chauth chandelier to spring her ex husband a surprise when they have already turned the tides, Ishaanji get wise watch some woody allen tonight & then board your bollywood relationship flight.
Technical values are sound; Cinematography by Attar Singh Saini is eye pleasing, Sound
By Anil Dubey is effective & production values are fine.
The movie gets 2 out of 5
One for the idea & the premise
One for the music
The movie losses on neglecting important basics of filmmaking like screenplay, casting, handling of an intense intriguing subject on relationships.
The Story
Vivan (Himesh Reshammiya) is a successful RJ on a popular radio channel in the city of Mumbai... He has acquired everything in life but his marriage is unsuccessful. Naturally he takes divorce from his wife Pooja (Sonal Sehgal), the reason cited are lack of compatibility between the two. In their hearts Vivan and Pooja don't want the divorce but the fast pace of life and busy schedules interfere with their emotional balance. Instead of suffering more, they choose to go their separate ways.
Enters Shanaya, who is like a ray of sunshine in Vivan's insipid life. But initially he doesn't realise that Shanaya (Shenaz Treasuryvala) brings a smile to his face. He blatantly discusses Shanaya with Pooja, but being a woman, she can see his love for Shanaya. She becomes the catalyst to bring this realisation that his true love is Shanaya. Why has he closed his eyes? His attitude and response towards Shanaya go through a sea of change. Vivan reciprocates and tries to get close to her family too. Although he still has a soft spot for Pooja and cares for her but he realises that he wants to spend his life with Shanaya.
Promotion
Decently promoted, anyhow the die hard of HR in Mumbai, Rajasthan & Gujarat will flock initially mostly due to the music.
Business Analysis
Targeted at the youths & HR followers the movie’s baffling & confused narration fails to please any of them. Will get some initials but after it will evaporate without a trace & the tough competition will only halt the expected signals for this ‘Radio’s’ frequency of audience at any B.O. stations.
