What is it?
Psycho killers are always a fascination for many phorein and some apne hindustani film makers. In Hollywood we have the likings of the great Martin Scorsese and co. and in Bollywood we have our Ram Gopal Varma’s and Aneez Bazmees and co. to carry the job. Now, we have another addition to this psyco club.

He is none other than our very own Vinod Pande (remember Ek Baar Phir  (1980), Yeh Nazdeekiyan (1982) and The Sins (2005)).

Well, after trying his luck with love, relationships, extra martial affairs and all, Vinod now tries his hand at a psyco –thriller in RED SWASTIK.

But alas, Vinod’s zest to create the heat sends cold ripples in this flick which is as bizarre as its title.

The writer director fails to explain the logic behind the killings and the motive of the psyco. Though, Vinod succeeds in bringing out some fine performance by the protagonist played by Sherlyn Chopra. She is the only redeeming feature in this red marked psyco flick.

Whats it all about?
Rohini (Sheryln Chopra) is discarded by her fiancé after a heinous incident where she is at the receiving end. She is a brave and strong women and wants her article to be published in a magazine which is run by Deepshikha, a strong woman who also had made her presence in this male dominant world.

Editor Sahiba refuses to do the needful so in order to prove her superiority, Rohini starts killing wine and flesh fancy males after making love to them and marks their forehead with red swastika as a symbol of justice. Got it ………? Never mind.

What to look out for?
Sheryln Chopra really gets into the skin of the character and her face and eyes do have that haunting feeling. Initially the film narrative opens with a promising note and it’s maintained to some extent. Deepshikha does a mature Job. Deep Raj is fine. Harsh Chaya is strictly okay. Production values are adequate.

What Not?
The film drags unnecessarily, it becomes boring and there are loops and holes in the script. From where does a sudden chemistry develop between Deepraz and Sherylyn.

What happened to those culprits who where instrumental in changing the fate of Sheryln. The idea of a red swastika on a dead man’s forehead is not holy, it is bizarre.

Bringing in such bizarre explanation and blending it with a couple of hot love making scene in the name of psycho’s does not justify it to be a thriller in any sense.

On the whole, Vinod Pande’s psycho attempt is disappointing. The promise showed in Ek Baar Phir, still waits for its due justification.

Watch it strictly only if you want to experience something bizarre.
