Technical Analysis
Raj Kanwar who is remembered for giving breaks to newcomers who later became SRK(introduced him in ‘Deewana’) Priyanka Chopra (Andaz) to name the toppers now launches shotgun Shatrugan Sinha’s son Luv Sinha and Ferena Wazier in this stale outdated bollywood period love story set in 1968 in Punjab(Amritsar).
No harm to be cliché no harm to be melodramatic and absolutely no harms to be a typical bollywood masala stuff. Every Indian loves dal rice with or without papad provided it’s tasty and has the known ingredients. The success of melodramatic TV soaps is the most befitting example that in Indian entertainment, emotions, melodrama and issues twined around a woman and her child always rules.
Raj Kanwar in his passion for melodrama tries to maintain the elements required in such films like havelis, those cars, naukar chakar and all. I was not born in 1968 but still I can say that the production designs and costuming looked totally out of place. (source: photographs of my cousins and other family members, they never wore such clothes in those times at least in the snaps taken) anyways I remember the year 1968 for 2 reasons one for the developments in America (the Vietnam thingie) and Beatles visit to an Indian ashram. God when will our writers get real.
Anyways it’s not expected from Raj Kanwar and so his 1968 is too plastic without any freshness that stops you to being transported into the past.
Contrary to the look of the film, which is artificial the acting from the veterans Rekha, Hema and Rishi are really fine.
Debutants Luv and Ferena needs polishing, their on screen chemistry is thanda. As the film progresses it becomes difficult for you to underline good moments only after the arrival of Hema Malini post interval the writer director tries to bring some women angle and twist but at that time you are already exhausted.
Actually, the characters in this film fail to muster much sympathy for themselves cause the writer director Raj Kanwar doesn,t want them to burst out of the cages of his own melodramatic design which hardly registers and finds minimum takers.
Technically decent with first rate production values and poor music the movie scores one out of five
The Story
It’s the story of a boy played by Luv who is born in a muslim family (Hema Javed) is taken care by a hindu couple (Rishi, Rekha) as he gets misplaced during the 1947partition riots. Grows up goes to Kashmir and falls in love with a Muslim girl Ferena. The girl family objects so dear mother for the sake of his laadla puttar find out the whereabouts of her beloved biological parents and when they come to India, there’s a twist n the tale when they express their desire to have the dulaara of Rekha and Rishi in the film shift to Pakistan after the marriage.
Promotion
Sadly the activities had failed to make any impact
Business Analysis
Its only adds to the concern people’s resume otherwise it’s a washout
