SUNDAY
KWALITY FUN FILLED ENTERNETO
by Vishal Verma

Rating:

What is it?
Like the ice cream ‘Cornetto’, Rohit Shetty’s ‘Sunday’ has all the ingredients to fulfill the appetites of fun loving starving souls of Bollywood masala entertainments. This glee n suspense entro bar has everything- comedy (thank god for the humor being in good taste), suspense, thrill & romance packed with action.

It’s a challenging task for any filmmaker to combine all this elements and churn out an entertaining 2+ hr moments, which has its moments of thrill, chill, laughter and does not go overboard with any.

Rohit Shetty with his team of writers Tushar Hiranandani, K Subhash & Robin Bhatt do a commendable job in maintaining the balance and keep the viewer engrossed right till the last reel, thanks to some stylish narration by Rohit and smart editing by Steven Bernard.

‘Sunday’ is a smartly packed bollywood entertainer for your weekend.

The movie is entertainer right from the word go and has some wonderful performance especially from Ayesha Takia- her dubbing voice over’s for cartoon characters, Arshad Warsi and of course Irrfan Khan gigs keeps you entertain till the end.

Though it has its flaws but they are minimal like the climax turns out to be ‘thanda’ after all the establishments and Esha Deol’s item number. Daler Mehndi’s ‘Goore Goore Gal ‘is a waste.

What is it all about?
Sehar (Ayesha Takia- fantastic) is an absent minded dubbing artiste, who keeps forgetting things; her life turns miserable when she gets a clue about the missing Sunday which points to be a possible attack on her. ACP Rajveer Randhava, a ghuss khor police officer (Ajay Devgan- fine) takes up the case to solve the problems of Sehar’s life.

In the process of enquiry it comes to light that different people interacted with sehar,   Ballu (Arshad Warsi- wonderful), the taxi driver and his friend Kumar (Irfan Khan- always a delight to watch him perform), Sehar’s close friend Ritu (Anjana Sukhani – no comments) and a suspicious character who resides in Sehar’s society, and the group whom sehar met while parting at the discotheque.

While solving the mystery Rajveer gets a murder case pointing Sehar to be the culprit. Seher is astonished and is in panic when she realizes she is some where connected with these incidents but cannot remember anything.

What follows is a gripping entertainer but not in the emblematic who dunit format.

What to look out for?
Fun filled moments between Arshad & Irfaan are the major highlights.

After ‘Golmaal’ Rohit returns with ‘Sunday’ and compels you to add his name in the waiting list of directors whom you look out for.

What not?
The climax is ‘thanda’. Tusshar Kapoor is wasted. A couple of the songs become a hurdle in the narrative.

The prosaic gang who is after Ayesha Takia is a no no with a big N.

Recommended: For a paisa vasool ‘Sunday’ viewing.
