THE TRAIN
Derailed in Bangkok
By Vishal Verma

Rating:- * *

What is it?
Remixed Chow Min with Charles and Lucinda …….. Anyone?
Movies revolving around extra martial affairs where made in past, are being made in present and until the word cinema exists, the affair will go on. So what makes ‘THE TRAIN’ different?.  2 things. This is not just an extra-marital affair, but also a thriller which involves blackmail, rape, murder. And it is highly inspired by the 2005 videshi thriller ‘DERAILED’ and also bear resemblance to the 1981desi drama ‘Bezubaan’.

Keeping the adaptation! Oh! Sorry, (inspiration) aside, The Train travels through the 2+ hours with some hiccups. Director duo Raksha Mistry & Hasnain S Hyderabadwala does maintain the speed until the first half. The second half sadly looses the tempo when it’s required the most and eventually its starts blowing whistle.

Whats it all about?
Vishal [Emraan Hashmi], is settled in Bangkok with his wife, Anjali [Sayali Bhagat] and their 5-year-old ailing daughter Nikki who is suffering from diabetic. Anjali and Vishal are saving all money & trying to hold on to their deteriorating marriage, which is already under tremendous pressure.

One day, on his way to work, Vishal meets Roma [Geeta Basra], They get attracted towards each other. As Vishal gets to know her better, he realizes that she too is a loner, trapped in a loveless marriage. The attraction between them reaches a peak and they decide to give in to an adulterous affair. One night, when they are at ease with each other in a hotel room, a thug Tony (Aseem Merchant) breaks in and robs the couple. But that’s not all, he beats up Vishal and by the time Vishal is left unconscious, he rapes Roma. Vishal feels guilty of not been able to protect Roma and fearing the society they decide not to inform the police. Taking advantage of this situation Tony starts blackmailing Vishal and makes life hell for Vishal his family and Roma.

Then follows a murder, sense of betrayal, husband-wife woes etc.

What to look out for?
Director duo Raksha Mistry & Hasnain S Hyderabadwala does show the glimpses of fine storytellers. A slick and fast-paced consistency would have given a far better result. Emraan Hashmi does a remarkable job after kissing and carries the film on its shoulders.

Geeta Basra does a fine job. Sayali Bhagat looks attractive but she needs to develop herself more as an actor. Aseem Merchant is a surprise and he delivers a noteworthy performance. Anant Mahadevan provides able support.K Raj Kumar camera captures Bangkok to its perfection. The track ‘Ajnabee’ by Mithoon is catchy. Production values are up to mark.

What Not?
Please figure out some originality my friends. Even the tagline seems to be same. The plot seems to be heavily adapted oh , sorry again (INSPIRED)is the word, from the videshi thriller ‘DERAILED’. if this goes on and on then one fine day there will be not much left to be inspired from.
Suresh Menon tries hard to evoke any laughter but alas. Rajat Bedi(seen for a couple of scene) in the film disappoints.

In a nutshell, Siddhi Vinayak Creations THE TRAIN, produced by Narendra Bajaj and Shyam Bajaj is an average thriller.

Only board this train if you have not watched ‘DERAILED’.
