Compact Disc to co-produce movie with BBC Films

Compact Disc India Ltd has signed an MOU with BBC Films to co-produce film, Blame It On The Bhangra.

The film will be directed by Paul Angunawela, who has also written the film.

According to Kumar, BBC Films approached Compact Disc India with the project. He says, "We decided to co- produce this project because I liked the story , the passion of the director and the people involved in it."

The budget of the film will be approximately £3.8 million. However, the final figure is still being worked out..

The film is slated to go on floors by the end of September or early October this year and 50 per cent of the film will be shot in India while the remaining 50 per cent will be shot in the UK.

David Thompson, former head of BBC Films from Origin Pictures will co-produce. Blame It On The Bhangra is an uplifting and larger-than-life musical comedy set in contemporary London, but in a world where nation has been swept up by Bhangra. The story centres on a British-Asian girl disguises herself as a boy in the hope of winning the tournament and claiming ultimate Bhangra glory.

Plans are to release Blame It On The Bhangra by mid-2010. Kumar informs that while the movie will be distributed by Lionsgate in the UK territory, the distributors for the Indian and Canadian markets are not yet decided.
