Can you imagine a bollywood laughter caper minus fair skins?
Promising to be a ‘‘Dhamaal’ of different sorts, producer-director Indra Kumar talks to IMP about his forthcoming comick flick ‘Dhamaal’.
Q: ‘Dhamaal’ completes the hatrick after ‘Masti’, ‘ Pyare Mohan’.
A: Its laughter season all around, people really want to laugh, and look for ways to find some respite from their day to day tensions and other stress. They flock in to the cinema hall expecting to find some relief, enjoy a couple of hours without bothering about anything, to laugh, find some entertainment. With ‘Dhamaal’ I have tried to make people laugh, find some relief, enjoyment and expect them to come out of the theatre feeling happy and laughing all the way.
Q: USP?
A: The title ‘Dhamaal’ says it all. It’s a fun-filled laughter caper right from the word go. Full of ‘Masti’.
Q: Theatre personalities like Paritosh Painter, Balvinder Suri and Bunty are credited for the script. On what basis did you zeroed in on them to write the script for ‘Dhamaaal’?
A: I have seen and enjoyed their plays. I loved their sense of Humor. Apart from that for 15 months we have labored for the finalization of the script, that impressed me a lot and I finally decided to make a film on it. And now I am happy with the end result.
Q: Your experience while working with your star cast?
A: I am delighted working with Sanjay, Ritesh, Harshad, Ashish, Javed, we all had a ball during the shoot. No tantrums, nothing, everybody was there to help anyone.
Q: No Female lead, no item number in ‘Dhamaal’ don’t you think it will make the audience to go aloof when they will not find any female attraction?
A: There was no need of a female lead, or attraction in this movie, and as far as the risk factor is concerned, it will prove to be a trend-setter for other films to follow. When you will watch the film you will realize that there is no need of a female lead in a laughter caper which revolves round males.
Q: Any specific reason for choosing Adnan Sami as the music director?
A: We thought Adnan is the best choice available for this film which has 3 songs in the film whereas the album consists of 5 numbers.
Q: How was the experience while shooting in the remotes of Rajasthan and Maharashtra?
A: The film has lots of stunt scenes and some special effects and thank god! It was not much of a problem. Shooting at the hilltops and bumpy rough roads of Rajasthan was also not much of an issue.
Q: Working with Sanjay Dutt considering he has to leave for court hearings every now and then?
A: Sanjay is great soul, I admire his professionalism. He use to be depressed, feeling low at times regarding his court case, but he never ever cancelled his shoot for that matter. After seeing his guts, I have become a big fan of Sanjay.
Q: Romantic musicals, comedies which genre do you found it to be easy to make?
A: To make a film is a big responsibility, be it a comedy, romance, action and so on. Audience is your god and when you are able to make him happy and smile, you have received your blessings.
Q: Your future plans?
A: Mother destiny will decide my future plan of action. I will go wherever the almighty takes me.
