“I am impulsive but not that much!! I am an actor and want to explore acting as much as possible”- Muzamil Ibrahim.
The words get mumbled up on the tip of the tongue with just a glimpse of him…and girls loose their heartbeat with just a slight smile of his. He sizzled with Rakhi Sawant in the song ‘Pardesiya’ and ramped all the way to his first film ‘Dokha’ under the Bhatt banner. Hottest face to be seen on screen, Mr Gladrags 2003 and Mega Model Muzamil Ibrahim talks his heart out on his debut movie and much more about himself.
Interviewed By Vidhushi Tikoo.
Q1: What difference in challenge you faced in acting than walking on ramp?
Ans: Modeling is quite different, you just have to take initiative and the whole fraternity becomes like a family and once people like you, you become steady and your ball is rolling. I am lucky to have been appreciated throughout the journey as a model though I just started with Gladrags in 2003. So it has been quite exciting till now.
Q2: You have been a very well face amongst the industry as a super model for long now…is there a reason for you to come into movies so late?
Ans: Age factor plays a major role here since I was only 19 when I got into modeling ,probably people wouldn’t have accepted me as an actor and also I would have landed with not many roles since I was very thin. You would have considered me then as a ‘Child Actor’!!!(Laughs). In addition I had a lot to learn which I learnt from modeling and that has ultimately helped me in modeling.
Q3: Bhatt banner has always come out with successors in lead actors…your take on it!
Ans: Very responsible banner that makes responsible films. It is important to have people around who make interesting films that cater to issues that we are responsible for.
Q4: ‘Mechanical Engineering’ to ‘Modeling’ to now ‘Films’ … how was the journey like?
Ans: My mom wanted me to be an engineer. I studied head on in 11th and 12th to get into engineering. But life had plans for me. I walked into Gladrags one Sunday morning to kill time and a few days later I come to know I had been selected as one of the contestant (smiles).
Q5: The Telegraph (Calcutta) dated 30th July 2005 carried “Model Muzamil Ibrahim has left behind the mindless violence that haunts his home state of Jammu and Kashmir”. Comment
Ans: I have never left it. One is always a part of it somewhere. Now I feel responsible for the people who are staying there because I have moved ahead and have come to a level where I can take up the responsibility. One reason my mother being a social worker, I was embedded by her to be closely related to the Kashmir issue.
Q6: Your brother Mudasar stated in the same issue you are very impulsive…was modeling and now acting an impulsive decision?
Ans: No, impulsive in the sense I get excited over things very easily. Few things are decided by God and this was one of such things. My family for that matter of fact never thought that I would end up being a model.
Q7: Your take on ‘Dokha’ as a film?
Ans: ‘Dokha’ deals with contemporary Indian reality without manipulating the truth. Very few films are made that make no alterations and ‘Dokha’ is one of such films!
Q8: What is more important according to you… an actor’s way of presentation or the content of the film?
Ans: I think content of the film primarily and then the actor’s way of presentation.
Q9: How did the role land to you?
Ans: Since I was a known face in Modeling, there were quite a number of films that were being offered to me. Then Pooja Bhatt came up to me with a film she was making on stalkers. I asked her to first test my acting skills and eventually when she did, Mahesh Bhatt asked her to keep me and that they can use the best of me. Thus Dokha!!
Q10: What are the future projects?
Ans: I have been offered two films by Vishesh Banners and 4 others from outside and a number of films more. But I yet have to see which one are the more considerate ones.
Q11: Any other field of media you want to experiment with?
Ans: (starts laughing) I am impulsive but not that much!! I am an actor and want to explore acting as much as possible.
Q12: What inspired you to be a model/actor?
Ans: Life inspiration. Sometimes you just get bowled over by what life has entrusted for you.
Q13: Your take on present day debutants?
Ans: Lot of debutants this year with great backgrounds (sighs). I am nowhere close to them when it comes to having a background. But when it comes to me standing alone I make sure I don’t end up too easy.
Q14: Pooja Bhatt as a director?
Ans: My direction part was done by Mr. Bhatt. If you are a Mr. Bhatt fan, you’ll clearly see in the film where the influences come from father or the daughter.
Q15: Tulip Joshi as a co-star?
Ans: Amazing, Nice!
Q16: Any role that you desire to portray?
Ans: Aamir Khan in ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ and Salman Khan in ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’ as both films are very close to me.
Q17: Sign Off words for the readers…
Ans: I believe in a certain issue and that’s why I did this film…I was lucky that god felt that I was responsible for the issue like this. There are very few people who believe in what they say and I am one of them.
