NFDC successfully concludes ‘Film Bazaar India - 09’

National Film Development Corporation Ltd. (NFDC), a Government of India Enterprise, established with a view to encourage and foster the good cinema movement successfully concluded ‘Film Bazaar India’ 09’ today amidst much fanfare.

The Bazaar was aimed to create opportunities for networking and business for producers, filmmakers and distributors from across the world. Film Bazaar 09 also promoted co-productions by facilitating collaboration amongst potential domestic and international partners. The aim of the bazaar was to provide a proficient stage for prospective buyers & sellers of film rights from India & abroad. Over the years, Film Bazaar has become more popular. Last year 300 delegates from 17 countries had attended the bazaar. It’s a place to grow ones knowledge and information base solely focused on increasing international trade for film fraternity members from across the country. Film Bazaar witnesses multi-cultural diversity of delegates this year who came to find people with the same business interests and broaden their global network.

This year the Hong Kong Trade Development Corporation, a delegation of distributors from Europa Cinemas, and the American Film Institute’s 20/20 program were also present at the Film Bazaar to further expand their global film network.

With an objective to initiate a market exchange of ideas between India & Europe Film & TV Production sector  was executed, the professional training program offered trans-national networking issues as well as potential market analysis for Film and TV Projects from the fields of script analysis, market research, financing/funding, distribution, world sales.

Work in Progress Lab: The Work in Progress witnessed the upcoming film makers getting in depth sights and guidance from experienced film professionals from the international and national community.

I met some interesting people. I met 2 prominent funders Global Film Initiative from Europe and Hals Fund from Netherlands amongst others in the bazaar and expect some interesting development soon.

Ace Film Director, Mani Ratnam added: “The bazaar this year is bigger than the last year .Young film maker ruled the roost this year. This interesting platform is heading  in the right direction and is soon poised for the next level and has the potential to grow exponentially .

Talking about Film Bazaar India’ 09 Mr. Rajesh Bhagat, Consultant, Hong Kong Trade Council said, “Our main aim of participating at Film Bazaar was to create awareness about the facilities provided by Hong Kong Trade Development Council and FILMART, an international film market. Film Bazaar provided us a platform to meet and interact with producers, filmmakers, directors, production houses, distributors at Film Bazaar thereby helped us meet our purpose of creating awareness. India’s participation at FILMART has been abysmally low, but now since we have met the people from the Indian film fraternity, we  hope there will be more participation and awareness at FILMART”.

Rajneesh Nikale, Sr. Manager – Films/Restoration, Pixion, mentioned, “ This is the first time NDFC had set up booths for companies to participate and showcase their services to delegates. Our basic intention of coming to Film Bazaar was to meet and interact with film makers. At Film Bazaar we could directly meet and had easy access to film makers, production companies. As Film Bazaar gives opportunity to  meet international delegates from countries like Canada, Germany, UK, USA etc, they showed very keen interest in working with Pixion.”

Richie Mehta, Writer –Director, American Film Institute Project: 20/20 :Our objective of coming to India was to network and promote cross culture differences and similarities, The bazaar gives an excellent opportunity to meet right minded people.

Mr Christian Jeune, Director Of Film Department & Deputy General Delegate of Cannes International Film Festival added “ This year film bazaar portrayed great energy and intensity. There was a high level of excitement, met some interesting people in work in progress section and also met new breed of film makers,, it indeed was a great forum” 

Mr. Om Puri, Chairman, NFDC added: “I am very happy with Film Bazaar This year. It was very well organised   I did not see any one complaining about anything. The stalls and the infrastructure and the way it was organised was very good. The Film Bazaar Team was excellent.
